Spring 2012 Newsletter

Color is blooming everywhere including here at Willowe’s.  We have been busy teaching classes, making up samples and ordering new yarns for spring and summer.  With the help of many hands we have been doing a bit of rearranging.  It’s not completely done, but getting close!  Things to look for in this newsletter are listed below:

New Hours

Closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Tuesday 10:30 – 7:00

Sampler Baby Blanket

If you have ever wanted to try doing different stitches, then this will fit the bill.  We will be meeting once a week over the summer to begin making a new square each week for 16 weeks.  On week 17 students will learn how to crochet around the edges of the squares in preparation joining them together.  Week 18 we will learn how to “sew” the squares together. 

Will meet every Wednesday at 12:30-2:00 starting April 11 thru July 25.

There is no class fee with purchase of book and yarn.        

Beginner Socks on Two Circular Needles

Students will use a worsted weight yarn for this first pair of socks.  A brief demonstration will be given on how to use double pointed as well.   You should be comfortable with the knit and purl stitch.

Crochet for Knitters.   

Ever see a pattern that include a bit of crochet, and you don’t have a clue? Students will learn how to make a foundation chain, single and double stitch.  Please bring a 4” square that you cast off knitted with worsted weight yarn.

Continental Knitting

There are two methods of knitting, English and Continental.  With the English method the working yarn is held in the right hand. Students will practice holding the working yarn and the left hand and “picking’.

Fair Isle Can Cozy

Make this two color can cozy with a design for those cold cans this summer.  Students should be comfortable doing the knit and purl stitches as well as working in the round.

May 3 12:30 – 2:00.   Please bring two colors of worsted weight yarn and #8 double points.

Felted Phone Case

We will be making this quick little project here in class.  At the end of class the teacher  will be doing a demonstration on how to hand felt a small project.

I Cord Necklace

Using Plymouth Eros ladder yarn and two double pointed needles you can make this fast and easy summer project.   May 17   12:30 – 2:00.  Class fee $15.00

Cotton Market Bag

This bag works well for a trip to farmer’s market or going to the beach.  Some of the techniques used in class will be picking up stitches, working in the round, learn how to make a lace pattern on the sides of the bag and form handles.

Baby Surprise Jacket  

Make a baby jacket and only have to stitch up two seems?  This design by Elizabeth Zimmerman is a real eye opener on how to use the garter stitch with carefully places increases and decreases possible.
